ANCHORAGE—Service on the Quintillion subsea fiber optic network was interrupted today after an apparent fiber cut caused a system-wide outage. Service outage protocols began immediately, and restoration efforts are well underway.
“Quintillion is taking all necessary steps to determine the cause, initiate immediate short-term action and implement a remediation plan,” said Quintillion Chief Executive Officer George Tronsrue. “The company has communicated the situation to our direct customers and to the FCC. Our terrestrial system, however, is still operational. We appreciate Alaskans’ patience as we work swiftly and efficiently to restore services.”
Initial assessments indicate an offshore fiber cut north of Oliktok Point.
Quintillion will continue to update customers, stakeholders and appropriate regulatory organizations as service is restored.
